Why therapy?
There are all kinds of reasons why you might want to talk to a therapist or counsellor. We live in a fast paced world that is changing quickly and life is full of challenges and opportunities for growth. We might be struggling with relationships, family dynamics, difficult things that happened to us, difficult things happening in the world, mental and physical health challenges, or aspects of our identities and experiences that we want to explore and make sense of. Therapy can offer a confidential and nurturing space to share your experiences; a place to be heard, witnessed and supported in your journey through facilitating a deeper understanding of what is happening in our lives.
My Approach
My primary purpose as a therapist is to support you to gain insight and awareness into whatever experiences are arising, and offer tools and interventions that nurture healing, growth and transformation. My therapeutic practice embraces many forms of expression – be that talking, using creativity, moving, unfolding body sensations, working with dreams and images, and connecting to nature. At all times the focus is what feels the most useful, accessible, and potentially transformative to you in our work together. I work in a relational and intersectional way, knowing that many of the challenges we face are part of a wider social and cultural picture. I can offer an empathic, non-judgemental and compassionate space to hold and unfold whatever arises.
My core values are:
A commitment to social justice and anti-oppressive practice
An understanding that much of the oppression and trauma we face as individuals is rooted in collective and systemic oppression
A dedication to supporting individuals and communities to find healing, resilience, clarity and purpose, in order to find new ways of relating and being
A trauma informed approach that prioritises consent, choice, empowerment, and space to take the time you need
A commitment to on-going self-work and reflection, and rigorous ethical standards of practice
